What will happen now?

This is the Harbour Light area as it looked in November 2004. Much of the debris had been cleared and the site made safe, but the extent of the damage is evident. The area surrounding the Harbour Light is owned by the National Trust and there was a great deal of work needed to make it safe for visitors, to re-establish access to both the harbour and to the South West Coast Path.

The National Trust has now completed much of that work, as the picture below shows, but other work is still ongoing.

The Harbour Light was privately owned and has been in the same Cornish family for over 50 years. The current owner, Trixie Webster is determined that the shop should be  rebuilt as close to the original as possible.  Quite a lot of the original stonework has been recovered and there is a good chance that the character of the original building can be carried forward into a new one.  To assist with the rebuild, Trixie has set up a restoration fund.

The purpose of this Website is to carry news and information that will let all those who have an affinity with Boscastle or an affection for the Harbour Light, know what's happening. There will be regular updates here on progress with reconstruction work and on any other matters of relevant interest.  There is also a page with a short history of the building.
