The Harbour Light News Update

As this picture, taken on 21 September 2006 shows,  external rebuilding work is now complete and only the fitting out of the inside of the new shop remains to be done. Trixie has decided that the restored building will become a tea shop.

She hopes to have an official opening by Reverend Christine Musser at 11am on 7th October.

After planning permission was granted for rebuilding the shop, as close to the original as possible, work started on clearing the site in mid-July 2005. Quite a lot of the material from the old building had been recovered, mainly from the harbour and as much as possible of this was used in the new building. Re-building itself could not start until the end of 2005 but, as the pictures below show, work progressed rapidly through the year.

The Harbour Light shop was originally re-located almost opposite the old site on the other side of the harbour in "Seagulls". The temporary shop carries the same range of goods as the original shop including clothing, some more unusual ornaments and souvenirs and a range of Christian books and special occasion cards. The temporary shop has operated so successfully that Trixie decided to continue with it in this location thus freeing up the new building to become a tea shop.

To everyone who contributed to the restoration fund many thanks,

your support was very much appreciated.
